How to Survive Romeo and Juliet's Verona

1. Steer clear of family feuds
If caught in the middle of the Montague-Capulet feud, stay neutral. Avoid public brawls and stick to peaceful areas of Verona. Benvolio tries to keep the peace but ends up in the thick of it. Casually stroll the other way when swords are drawn, particularly when Tybalt is involved.
2. If you fall head over heels at a masquerade party, make sure your love interest isn’t from the rival family
Maybe get their name before you decide they’re worth dying for (literally).
3. The apothecary’s potions will always work
But be sure your girlfriend is really truly dead before taking it. There is no going back.
4. Have secret messages to send? Find a chatty nurse
But make sure she doesn’t get sidetracked with juicy gossip.
5. Handle Friar Lawrence with care
He means well, but his plans can be a bit experimental. Get a second opinion before downing his temporary death potion.
6. Use a good disguise at the rival family’s parties
Masks might not be enough if Tybalt is there. If things go south, blend in with the decor.
7. Swords are the fashion statement of the century in Verona
Take a fencing class or two - you never know when you might need to defend your house, but know when you are outmatched. Mercutio’s fencing skills were top-notch, but Tybalt was better. Better safe than skewered.
8. In Verona, clear communication can save lives
If you’re planning a secret rendezvous in your wife’s family’s burial place, maybe write it down and attach a drawing for clarity. Make sure all parties are on the same page, and communicate plans well in advance so Balthasar doesn’t ruin everything.
